How did you get into this?

Someone recruited me from the K-Mart garden shop in 1990 and I was hooked.

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?

Finding solutions for difficult vision issues, and then making it look amazing.

What’s your favorite thing about being your own boss?

Sharing a true optical craftsmanship experience with our customers. I'm not confined to what's offered. If I have someone who needs something special, I can get it.

Fun Facts:

I'm a huge gardener and I preserve much of my own food

I lived in Iceland as a teen

I'm a sucker for little kids in glasses

I'm married to an artist and if I wasn't in optical I would be in interior design.

How long have you been in the optical profession?

I started training when I was in High School, about 10 years ago.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?

I love seeing how confident people are when they find that perfect pair of frames.

If you could tell people one thing about optical…

Optical is always changing. It's a unique field that incorporates fashion, medical and customer service all in one.

Favorite Things: Traveling, Costume making, Manta Rays, Anything Studio Ghibli.

Dr Mabie graduated from Illinois school of optometery in 1996. She has worked with a variety of settings from military to Special Olympics and Target National Night out. She sees patients of any age and enjoys any challenge each stage of life might present.

Favorite thing about optometry?

Getting to work with such a variety of people and seeing families year after year. Watching their kids grow up and building those relationships.

What would you like people to know about optical?

The opticians are the people who give you the best tools for clear, comfortable vision. Optometrists are the experts when it comes to vision testing and caring for eye health. Ophthalmologists are those you see for eye surgery.

Outside of the exam room?

I love reading, running, gardening and spending time outside!

She is licensed with the Minnesota Board of Optometry and takes most insurance plans.

What do you love about being an optician?

I love a lot about my job. The opportunity to interact with new people and help them find their favorite glasses. There’s always something new to learn in optical.

What do you want people to know about optical?

Optical isn’t just about glasses! There are so many sides to the optical world from fashion, to medical, to troubleshooting and product buying. It’s never boring!

And outside of work?

In my space time I really enjoy time with my family and friends. The joy of watching my little ones try new things brings life to me.

Favorite things about optical? Fixing problems and custom crafting lenses. (and he’s good at it!)

One thing I would tell people about optical is that quality doesn’t have to be costly. But choosing the cheapest will be a sacrifice.

Favorite thing outside of work? Bowling!
